Day to Day Life

Volunteers will arrive at the airport in Accra, a coordinator from the organization will greet the volunteers at the arrival gate. The coordinator will be holding a sign with Freedom for Health Asuogyaman printed clearly. The coordinator will show identification to volunteers before leaving the airport to the hotel in Accra. 

Volunteers will travel to the hotel located in East Legon and will wait for all volunteers to arrive upon the date. Volunteers should arrive within 48 hours in Ghana as one group. Once all volunteers are present the coordinator will transport volunteers to the house in Frankadua, the drive is approximately three to four hours long. 

When the volunteers arrive in Frankadua they will be shown their rooms and be shown around the house and the community. A bonfire will be held in the name of their arrival in the evening. The next morning volunteers will accompany their coordinator to the medical clinic and will spend the day understanding the proses that takes place at the facilities. The medical coordinator will explain the medical program and education program in detail. 

For five working days the volunteers will assist the medical clinic staff members for the benefit of the community and to adapt and learn how medical procedures are performed in Ghana. These procedures will be very different compared to medical work in first world countries. The volunteers will gain experience in all job rolls within the medical facility. 

Day 1) arrival in Frankadua and induction

Day 2) orientations in medical clinic and community

Day 3) working at the local clinic, learning paperwork and assessments

Day 4) working at the local clinic, learning assessments and malaria testing

Day 5) working at the local clinic, learning wound care and basic diagnosis

Day 6) working at the local clinic, learning advanced diagnosis

Day 7) working at the local clinic, learning prescription proses

Day 8) Volunteers will join the general health care program in isolated areas of the Asuogyaman District outside of the health care facilities.
